2011 MAINE TRIP
* ROCKWELL MUSEUM * ACADIA NATIONAL PARK * BAR HARBOR * BASS HARBOR *
* BAY OF FUNDY * NIAGARA FALLS * TORONTO

26 AUGUST
ROCKWELL MUSEUM
STOCKBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS

After a couple of days visit with Bob and Luz in Kendall Park, NJ, we (Linda, Bart, Heidi and I) started our trip. Our visit to the Rockwell Museum began with the Peter Rockwell sculpture walk, then inside the museum itself where unfortunately photography is not allowed. We then visited Rockwell's studio which was moved from its original site in town. We later drove through the picturesque town of Stockbridge.

NATIONAL SHRINE OF THE DIVINE MERCY
STOCKBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS

We met up with Elvie and Caloy at the Shrine, a ministry of the Marian Fathers, which is located in Eden Hill in the Berkshire Hills.

27 AUGUST VACATIONLAND ESTATES RESORT
ISLAND FALLS, MAINE

After spending the night in the Berkshires, we finally arrived at Linda and Bart's timeshare condo and right away saw a deer foraging and eating some fallen apples. After checking in we drove to town for some provisions and checked out the bucolic surrounding areas. Sunset was beautiful yet ominous with Hurricane Irene seemingly following us up the East Coast.

29 AUGUST
ACADIA NATIONAL PARK

After driving around the area of Island Falls for a couple of days, the weather cleared and we drove to Acadia National Park. Stopped at the Visitors Center in Mount Desert Island then took the Park Loop Road with breathtaking views of the ocean and the coastline of Maine. Had a nice lobster lunch in Bar Harbor.

BASS HARBOR

We next drove to Bass Harbor to view the famous Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse and the quaint fishing harbor with its lobster boats and piled lobster traps.

31 AUGUST
BAY OF FUNDY

Left very early to cross the border and see the low tide at the Bay of Fundy. What an amazing work of Nature. Huge rocks with trees on top exposed by the receding tide. Walked on the beach and was awed by the sight. Then the tide came back after a few hours and the water rose several feet high and part of the rocks were covered by the incoming tide! Click here to see the Bay of Fundy tide move interactively.

1 SEPTEMBER
BAR HARBOR

Elvie and Caloy left early this morning to go back home. We will meet with them in a few days in Missisauga. We later drove back to Mount Desert Island to see more of beautiful and scenic Bar Harbor.

LOBSTER POUND

Another scrumptious lobster lunch!

ACADIA NATIONAL PARK

Drove back to Acadia National Park for another look at the picturesque views.

2 SEPTEMBER
SHIN POND VILLAGE

Stayed in the vicinity of Island Falls and drove to Shin Pond Village.

SHIN FALLS MUSHROOMS

On the way to Shin Falls we passed by a great variety of mushrooms of many shapes and colors.

SHIN FALLS

After getting lost at some point we finally heard the roaring of the falls and what a delight it was to see this beautiful sight in the middle of nowhere.

3 SEPTEMBER
NIAGARA FALLS AT NIGHT

Left Vacationland Estates after breakfast and drove to Niagara Falls on our way to visit Elvie and Caloy in Missisauga just outside Toronto.

4 SEPTEMBER
TORONTO

After breakfast at Elvie and Caloy's we drove to Toronto and picked up Luchi. Then we drove to the Gardiner Museum, which had a wonderful Meissen collection. We later had Filipino food at Max's of Manila. Then on to Casa Loma, a Gothic Revival style house and gardens, originally a residence but is now a museum and landmark. We drove to the University of Toronto and saw the CN Tower from a distance before we attended mass at St Michael's.

5 SEPTEMBER
NIAGARA FALLS & NEW YORK CITY

Caloy drove me to Buffalo to take the Greyhound bus to New York City. Stopped along the way in Niagara Falls for some amazing daytime pictures.
